Archery

WOISD Staff, Parents and Guardians:

White Oak ISD is completing the needed requirements to become a ‘National Archery in the Schools’ program school district. What is this? This program is designed to get kiddos involved with a ‘lifetime’ event/hobby that they can utilize as it teaches many things that are applicable for lifetime learners. The N.A.S.P. motto is ‘Changing Lives One Arrow at a Time’ and I have seen firsthand how this can happen. Texas Parks and Wildlife support and oversee the program and it has grown immeasurably in the past few years.

While there is a ‘competitive’ aspect to the program, our main goal is getting kiddos involved and exposing them to things that they might not normally have an opportunity to experience. All kids grade level 4th-12th are welcome to participate, regardless of skill level. Please be assured that this is a VERY safe and structured program.

I will be introducing archery during P.E. classes as well as other ‘during the school day opportunities’ this Fall and then set a time for 100% voluntary participation periodically after school (a schedule will be released at a future date). All needed equipment will be provided by the school (I have already received a TPWD grant and will also fundraise); there is ZERO cost for parents.

This summer we will have an ‘Instructor Certification Course’ hosted here at WOISD for anybody that would like to volunteer (staff members or parents) to help with the program. My good friend and the TPWD Archery Program Supervisor, Bernie Kessner, will instruct the course (1 day). More info to come.

Current 6th and 7th Grade Electives

 

All current 6th and 7th Graders:

It is time to choose your electives for the 2020-2021 school year!  Please look on the left side of our blog under Important Links and find the link for “Current 6th Graders” or “Current 7th Graders”.  Please click on the appropriate link to choose your electives for next year.  Based on interest and individual needs I cannot guarantee that you will receive all of your choices, but I will do my best.  This form must be filled out by Friday, May 22.

Student Turn In Dates

It is hard to believe we are beginning to wrap up a VERY strange school year! Due to campuses being closed and social distancing orders, our end of the year cleanout will look quite different. In order to follow the Social Distancing order, it will be necessary for everyone to follow the schedule and guidelines below:

    Please park in the Middle School parking lot or across the street if needed May 11-13 to turn in Chromebooks, library books, work, and any other school-issued materials on the assigned day and time. Please make arrangements for someone to be there. Students will be split up by grade and last name.  ONLY STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO WALK UP TO EACH STATION.

Each student will have a bag with their belongings from the locker as well as classroom belongings. We will have stations located in front of the building to drop off school items and pick up personal items. If your child left something in a classroom, please contact the teacher so they can get it for you.

End Of Year Housekeeping

It is really important that your child checks their email and fills out the Google form regarding locks.  If there is a lock on a locker, we need the code or it will have to be cut off.

Student Lockers

Please have your child check their school email.  I need them to fill out a Google Form regarding their lockers.  I really need this filled out this weekend.
